My hiker’s toes to the naked eye
look bruised, battered and torn
Callused by the relentless trails
that they have traveled upon
They have bled and broke
and ached in pain
Protected by the boots that they were in
They have texture and depth
and yes, lost a few nails
but the strength they provide
overwhelmingly prevail
Yet still with obedience
relentlessly they obey,
To the miles ahead of them
required of that day
My hiker’s toes though not a pretty sight
Have a simple, sweet melodic tale
of fighting the good fight
Strong and resilient and beautifully worn
They patiently wait to be where they belong
Back in their place where boots meet the trail
Collecting more stories of a life walked out well
Kai
